Reasons behind the Weaknesses in Learning English among Students at the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Derna, Libya

Abstract

This study aims to understand the reasons behind the weakness of students in learning English at the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Derna, Libya. Noticed that language competency of English language is low among students. The sample included 140 male and female students in the early stages of their studies, across all majors at the college. The results indicated that average performance in teaching English as a foreign language was impacted by reasons related to the environment, curriculum, and teaching methods, while the greatest concentration appeared for reasons related to the teacher and the student.
