Abstract

The agricultural sector plays a vital role in the national economy, as  it represents one of the main pillars that have an important role in the Libyan economy through the growing role of agricultural investment in agricultural development, through which it leads to an increase in national income, the issue of the study lies in the fact that agricultural investments in Libya are still low in relation to what the agricultural development plans need, as the total investments amounted to about 54.8 billion dinars during the period 2000-2020. The share of agricultural investments was about 6 billion dinars, representing about 11.1% of the total investments in the same period, which affected the performance and efficiency of the agricultural sector The study mainly aimed to know the impact of agricultural investment on economic performance in the Libyan agricultural sector with the aim of developing this sector and studying the most important criteria of economic efficiency in the Libyan agricultural sector, as the study reached a number of results, the most important of which is that the efficiency of agricultural investment can be measured through some economic criteria, namely the agricultural investment rate, where it reached less than the correct one, which indicates the existence of efficiency in the investment directed to the agricultural sector during the study period, and the return on investment where the study showed that the value of the output generated from one unit of investment in the agricultural sector was greater than one As for the extent of the contribution of the agricultural sector to the generation of GDP at the national level according to the investments of this sector, it turned out that the agricultural sector received investments that exceeded the value of the GDP generated from it, which means that there is no efficiency in investment according to this criterion, if the endemicity coefficient reached its minimum limit of about 10.7 in 2002 and its maximum unit The maximum unit is about 32.4 in 2020. With an average of 18.22 during the study period, the average capital intensification coefficient in the agriculture sector reached about 4.14, which means that the agriculture sector needs greater investments to generate job opportunities and encourage agricultural wor The study recommended a set of recommendations, the most important of which is to work on increasing the capabilities of agricultural investments directed to the agricultural sector and increasing agricultural investments in an amount and efficiency commensurate with achieving agricultural development goals.
