Abstract

The study aimed to explore the economic impacts of hosting the FIFA World Cup on the host countries. The study employed a descriptive-analytical methodology by selecting cases from both developed and developing countries that have hosted the World Cup. The focus of the study was on the costs and revenues associated with organizing and hosting the World Cup, and revealing the economic effects on the host country's economy. This included examining the impact on economic growth, employment and unemployment rates, the tourism sector, and the opportunity costs. The study concluded several key findings. Firstly, the impact on economic growth for countries that hosted the World Cup was relatively small. Secondly, the impact on employment and unemployment rates was temporary and short-term. Thirdly, the generated revenues from tourism for the host countries were lower than expected. Lastly, the opportunity costs for developing countries in hosting the World Cup were considered high.
