Abstract

This study aims to identify the cognitive, sensory, and motor abilities the of 16 children from Libyan city of Derna. The participants were 9 males and 8 females of children who survived the flood that happened last year in Derna. The researchers used the sensorimotor cognitive abilities scale for kindergarten children prepared by the De Bono Center for Teaching Thinking. The study adopted a descriptive approach. The results were analyzed using statistical tests, including the t-test for one sample and the Mann-Whitney test for two independent non-parametric sample samples. The findings revealed a statistically significant difference in the average sensorimotor cognitive abilities at a significance level of 0.05 in favor of the hypothetical scale average, which is equal to 37.5. In contrast, the sample average was equal to 19. There were differences in favor of males in visual perception and sensorimotor perception (recognizing body parts). There was also a distinction between body parts, moving balance, and auditory perception. On the other hand, there were differences in favor of females in total and partial perception.
